History

A family story since 1989 : the Domaine Lagarde was founded by Jean-François Lagarde. Initially, he settled with a vineyard of 4 hectares of vine. This vineyard has been substantially extended over the years and, in 1995, his wife Chantal decided to join the family winegrowing property.  The totality of the harvest was vinified in the Cave des Vignerons de Buxy.

Over the years, the area has grown and today, 35 hectares of vines are being farmed.

In 2019, with Lucile, one of their three daughters, Jean-François and Chantal decided to leave the wine-growing cooperative in order to realize their collective dream : to vinify, to age and to sell their wines by themselves, with the desire to link modernity with old traditions. Fallen in love with a forgotten 16th century priory, the family has decided to restore it and to bring it to life again.

In the heart of Burgundy

Domaine Lagarde is located in Burgundy, in Rosey, a small village in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise (halfway between the cities of Buxy and Givry).

Between the Côte de Beaune (in the north) and the Mâconnais Mounts (in the south), the Cote Chalonnaise vineyard extends over a 25 km long: it’s a beautiful and varied course with vineyards, nature and heritage.

Its wines are very specific and expressive. The clay-limestone soil is perfect for vine-growing, especially for Pinot Noir (principal grape variety in Burgundy). This grape variety is often associated to Chardonnay, aligoté and Gamay.

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, emblematic varieties.

Probably planted since the Gallo-Roman age, Pinot Noir is the grape variety that why the Burgundy great red wines are famous. For the great white wines of Burgundy (Côte de beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais and Chablis), winemakers have cultivated Chardonnay for centuries.

Gamay et Aligoté, fruits of history.

Gamay is an old grape variety, named as a very small village near to Saint-Aubin and Puligny-Montrachet. It is famous for the Mâconnais red wines.

Aligoté is a grape variety historically cultivated in the areas where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay can’t grown well.
Aligoté, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay can be used to make Crémant de Bourgogne.
